New Year’s Resolutions for Healthy Skin

As we get ready to bid goodbye to 2015 and welcome in the New Year, lots of folks will be making (and breaking) New Year’s resolutions.

While some resolutions such as losing weight and not eating sweets might not make it past mid-January, there are a few resolutions you should make and keep for 2016 – these resolutions will protect your skin and minimize your risks for skin cancer and skin aging.

Make a promise to use sunscreen all year-round. Maybe you are conscientious about using sunscreen in the summer months but forget about it the rest of the year – now is the time to make a resolution to make sunscreen a part of your daily routine this year. Blue Lizard Face is a great lightweight moisturizer to wear under makeup or on your face all year-round. It doesn’t clog pores as it protects with an SPF 30+.

Pledge to NEVER use a tanning bed. If you’ve been guilty of indoor tanning in the past, vow to stop forever. Indoor tanning has been shown to increase your risk for developing deadly melanoma by 74 percent. If you like the look of sun-kissed skin, use one of the many self-tanners available on the market but save your skin by pledging to never use a tanning bed again.

Pledge to check your skin regularly for changes. Pick one day a week where you check your skin for any changes to moles or other variations. Have your partner check hard-to-see areas and you can do the same for him or her. Make this a regular part of your weekly routine so you’ll be more likely to notice any changes to moles and catch any potential skin cancers early, when they are highly treatable.

Promise to get an annual skin check with a dermatologist. Go ahead and schedule an annual skin check with a dermatologist now for next year. While checking your own skin regularly is important, it’s also extremely important to get that yearly check by a professional. Don’t put it off -- vow to make this a priority this year.

And finally, promise to use only Blue Lizard Sunscreen this year!

Here’s to a happy and healthy 2016!

Holiday Skin Care 911

The holiday season is in full swing and while it’s the most wonderful time of the year, many of us will experience added stress, less sleep, skipped exercise and bad eating habits. All of these changes can wreak havoc on your skin.

Keep your skin healthy and looking its best throughout the busy holiday season with these simple tips:

Minimize stress. Stress can contribute or worsen psoriasis, acne and other skin conditions. While it’s sometimes unavoidable during the holidays, taking steps to manage stress, such as exercise, eating right or using relaxation techniques like meditation or yoga, can help to make you feel more relaxed and may just improve the look of your skin as well.

If you are having a drink, choose red wine. It’s tempting to overindulge at holiday parties but having a glass or two of red wine might help keep your skin looking good. Red wine has been shown to have an antioxidant effect on the heart and it is said, that if it is good for the heart, it is good for the skin.

Hydrate! Staying hydrated helps your skin look better. Make sure you drink water throughout the day and if you are having an alcoholic drink, increase the water you drink before going to bed and again the next day to avoid dry skin.

Avoid the temptation to go to bed without removing your make-up. This can clog pores and oil glands and end up causing irritation and blemishes. Take a few minutes to clean off all your make-up before hitting the sack

Exercise daily. Not only is exercise good for stress relief, it helps increase the oxygen to your skin and keeps it from looking sallow.

Eat healthy. It doesn’t mean you have to miss out on all your favorite holiday foods and treats, just eat them in moderation. Try to include lots of fruits and vegetables and low-fat protein each day throughout the holidays. If you want to indulge, pick one rich food to have, such as a small piece of pie or creamy veggie dip, rather than both. If you know you’ll be going to a party, eat lighter during the day so you can indulge a little more that evening.

Keep lip balm or a lipstick with moisturizer handy. Winter weather tends to cause chapped and dry lips. Use moisturizer products with SPF protection to keep lips soft.

By incorporating these tips, you can minimize damage to your skin during this hectic season and focus on family, friends and the joy of the season.

How to have a BLUE Christmas

A BLUE Christmas doesn’t have to mean a sad and lonely one like Elvis sings about in the iconic song. Instead, have a BLUE Christmas by incorporating a little Blue Lizard into your holidays!

Stocking stuffers. Filling stockings for family members is often the last thing on our holiday list and is easily forgotten. Make it easy this year by stuffing stockings with Blue Lizard products! Our 3 oz. tubes and 5 oz. bottles are the perfect size to fit most stockings and your friends and family will love getting a gift they can actually use!

Themed gift baskets. Is there someone on your gift list that loves the outdoors or spends a lot of time in warm climates? Put together a gift basket for them incorporating things they can use including sunscreen. For example, for the outdoor enthusiast, you might fill a new backpack with a water bottle, a hat, a pedometer, hiking socks, power bars and several tubes of Blue Lizard Sport and Face. Or for someone that travels a lot to tropical locales, you could get a nice beach bag and stuff it with a pretty beach towel, swimsuit cover-up, sunglasses, paperback books, a hat and several bottles of Blue Lizard Sensitive or Sport and Blue Lizard Face. You can be creative and incorporate a little Blue Lizard into most any gift basket theme.

Baby gifts. Do you have an expectant or new mother on your gift list? Give her Blue Lizard Baby, which is chemical-free, paraben-free and fragrance-free for tender baby skin.

Gift cards. Did you know you can buy Blue Lizard gift cards at These make great stocking stuffers, office party giveaways, teacher gifts and more. Gift cards are available in denominations of $10, $25, $50 and $100 so the recipient can chose which Blue Lizard formulation they want.
